But…Why?

I first wanted to take a moment to say thank you!

Wow! I was not expecting the outpouring of love and support I received when I told my community I was going full time as a photographer. I’ve been riding a mental high for about three weeks now and it’s been amazing. Thank you, thank you.

I’ve had several people ask me, “But Meg….Why? What made you decide now?”
Fair question. Let’s talk about it!

Doin’ my thing in Utah, featuring my Mamiya 645

I’m pretty sure I’ve always been obsessed with old photographs.
I could spend hours pouring over photos of my family from the past 50 years. I love listening to the stories, laughing at our fashion mis-haps, or discussing which grandchild got the family cheekbones.

In those moments not only am I connecting with my immediate family - I am connecting with my history. With family members that I bear a striking resemblance to, but have never met. It gives me a sense of identity and pride in the legacy my family has built over time.

When I met my father-in-law for the first time, he knew I loved photography.
We spent the afternoon going through photos he took of my husband and brother-in-law as children, teens, and young adults.
It was an honor to get to know my husband through the eyes of my father-in-law. I felt like I had a deeper understanding of who my husband is and how I could support our future together.

What I’m trying to say here is that photographs are our legacy.

They are our simultaneous connection to the past and the future.

They are a celebration of our lives and the people we love most.

We take photos of things we cherish and want to remember when that moment is gone.

It is my goal as a photographer to document the important moments and people in the lives of my clients. After our short time together, I want my clients (now friends) to be able to re-live and celebrate those moments for the rest of their lives. And the only way to do that is with photographs.

Do you have photos you love to look at over and over?
Was there a time where you didn’t have photos of a person or event and regretted it?

Let me know! In the meantime, feel free to follow me on
Facebook or Instagram.

Rock On,
Meg
